Behind pace — closing $2,600 per selling day for the remaining 25 days closes the gap.

Attainment is a lagging indicator — pace is actionable

By the time end-of-quarter attainment disappoints, it's too late. Pacing turns the same data into an early warning: check it weekly, and when pace slips below plan, look at the leading indicators — calls, demos, proposals — that feed next month's closes. Those activity metrics are also the safest thing to gamify, because reps control them directly.

Close the gap with a focused push

When the daily-needed number looks scary, a short contest or SPIFF aimed at pipeline-advancing activities can change the trajectory in a week. Put the race on the free live leaderboard so the whole team sees the gap closing in real time. Terms like quota attainment and ramp quota are in the glossary.

Frequently asked questions

How is quota attainment calculated?+

Quota attainment is closed revenue divided by quota for the same period, expressed as a percentage. If you've closed $85,000 against a $150,000 quarterly quota, you're at 56.7% attainment. It's the single most-watched number in most sales orgs.

What does 'pace vs. plan' mean?+

Pace compares your attainment to how much of the period has elapsed. If 62% of selling days are gone but you've only closed 57% of quota, you're pacing at 92% — slightly behind. Pace catches problems while there's still time to fix them, which end-of-quarter attainment can't.

What is a realistic quota attainment rate?+

It varies enormously by industry, segment and how quotas are set — many orgs design plans expecting a majority of reps to land somewhere around or below 100%, with top performers well above. The more useful discipline is tracking your own trend and pacing rather than chasing a universal benchmark.

How do I use the 'needed per day' number?+

It converts your remaining gap into a daily closing rate for the selling days left. That turns an abstract '43% to go' into a concrete daily target — which is exactly the kind of controllable, near-term goal that works well on a leaderboard or in a daily huddle.
